About Our Candles & Wax Melts
At Sheenashona we hand blend our luxury soya wax candles and hand mould our wax melts in small batches with a curated selection of signature fragrances and aromatherapy essential oils. We use Bekro dyes for the purest colour and cotton wicks in all our candle collections.
Soya wax is made from hydrogenating vegetable oil such as soya bean and rapeseed oil, making it perfect to create candles. Hydrogenation is a process where the oil which was once liquid at room temperature is processed to make it solid at room temperature, changing it into a wax. By changing the oils melting point, it allows the wax to melt at the ideal temperature. Vegetable waxes are renewable and thus Eco-friendly.
Aromatherapy oils have been used for centuries and is the practise of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit. Essential oils are extracted from plants and herbs, the essence of the plant and are super concentrated. Generally extracted by distillation often using steam essential oils can have a powerful effect on emotional and spiritual wellbeing and are often used for candles & home fragrance along with alternative medicines.
Essential oil is said to enhance your wellbeing when inhaled, as the scent molecules travels from the olfactory “sense of smell” nerves and then directly to the brain your amygdala which is a small, almond-shaped structure inside a larger network called the limbic system. Your amygdala and limbic system are extremely important as they control your emotions and behaviour along with stress levels and memory . This is why essential oils can lift your mood and make you feel good. Studies have also shown that different aromatherapy oils can have both a stimulating and/or sedative effect on the nervous and immune system as well as evoking a vivid memory from your past.
Candle Care
How To Burn Your Candle To Achieve The Best Results
- Light your candle in a well-ventilated room and burn candles away from walls and overhanging surfaces, draughts other heat sources and flammable materials.
- Allow the candle to burn until it reaches the edges of the container.
- Keep the wick trimmed to between a 1/4 to an 1/8th of an inch before each use.
- Burn regular-sized candles for a maximum of two hours at a time. Burning for less time can cause the candle to 'tunnel', which leaves a build-up of wax around the vessel's sides. Burning for longer periods (over four hours) can cause the wick to move or slant.
- Make sure you stop burning your candle when you have 10 mm of unmelted wax in the bottom of the candle to avoid excessive heat.
- Do not put the lid back on any candle vessel until it is completely cold. The jar may be warm for a considerable amount of time after the candle has been extinguished. Placing the lid back on may result in the vessel cracking and breaking as the heat cannot be released. Only place lid back on once candle vessel is completely cold.
Always Remember
- Candle containers will become hot and should never be placed on any unprotected or polished surfaces.
- Extinguish the flame and allow the candle too cool before handling or moving.
- You should never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Make sure you burn candles out of reach of children and pets. Never leave fragments of wick or matches in the candle after lighting.
- Never allow the flame to touch the side of any container and cease burning if it does.
- Extinguish a candle if it smokes, flickers repeatedly or the flame becomes too high.
- Never use if there is damage to the container.
- Storing candles for too long can affect the scent, so use your candle in a reasonable time to make the most of its beautiful fragrance.
- Keep out of reach of children & pets.
Wax Melt Care (Non Electrical)
- Wax melts should only be used in appropriate good quality wax melt burners.
- Remove your wax melts from any packaging and place them into the well of your wax melter. Do not over fill.
- Use your burner with an unscented tea light. Do not leave burning tea light unattended.
- Ensure the wax melt burner is well ventilated. There must be at least 6.5cm of space above the flame within the wax melt burner.
-
If the wax melt burner becomes very hot during use, do not touch or move whilst alight or whilst wax remains molten.
-
Do not burn the tea-light or leave the wax melt burner on or near anything that can catch fire.
- Extinguish the tea-light if the flame becomes enlarged, makes contact with the wax melt burner, or begins to smoke.
-
